Greyfriars Greyhound Pro – Data Scraper
I need a scraper for Racing Post GreyhoundBet to create a historical database for my Greyfriars Greyhound Pro Rating application.
Data required
Scrape FORM + RESULTS only, from 1 January 2025 to present.
For each race/greyhound I need:
Race ID, date, time and course
Greyhound name and Dog ID
Trap and trainer
Age and weight
Distance and grade/class
Sectional/split times
Position at bends
Finishing position
Winning time
Calculated/adjusted time
Going
SP
Previous form/race history
Trials and race comments
Also classify races as Morning (10:00–12:59), Afternoon (13:00–17:59), Evening (18:00–23:00).
Results must contain all runners and finishing positions so they can be matched against their pre-race Form.
Database
Please use SQLite and provide the completed database as greyfriars.db.
Suggested tables are:
races / greyhounds / race_runners / form_history / results
FORM and RESULTS should automatically link using Race ID + Date, with Dog ID identifying individual greyhounds.
Please store properly structured data fields rather than entire HTML pages.
Scraper
It should have:
From/To date selection
Automatic bulk collection
Start/stop/resume
Daily checkpoints
Duplicate protection
Error log and retries
SQLite database
CSV/JSON export
Please investigate Racing Post's underlying XHR/API data where possible and respect applicable site access restrictions.
Web access
I also want a simple web interface with a URL I can open in Chrome.
It should allow me to select dates, start the scraper, see progress, races/forms/results collected, matches and errors, and download/export the database.
Please confirm any hosting or ongoing costs before starting. I prefer free or very low-cost hosting.
Initial test
Please first scrape 1–3 January 2025 and provide the test database for approval before collecting the full period.
The final data will be used to determine which factors — particularly weight, first-bend position, sectionals, adjusted time, grade, distance, trainer, course, trap and time of day — are most important for the Greyfriars rating system.
