We are looking for an experienced freelancer who can help us develop a precise digital model and manufacturing-ready design for a custom-fit car cover, starting with a specific vehicle model and eventually expanding to multiple vehicles.
The objective is to create a cover that follows the actual contours of the vehicle, including the roof, bonnet, boot, mirrors, bumpers and other relevant body sections, rather than using a generic oversized cover.
Scope of Work
Depending on your expertise, the project may include:
3D Vehicle Surface Development: Obtain, clean or develop an accurate 3D vehicle model and prepare its exterior body surface for cover development.
Cover Surface Modelling: Develop a fitted outer surface that follows the vehicle's body contours with appropriate ease for the selected fabric.
2D Pattern Development: Unwrap or develop the 3D cover surface into individual 2D fabric panels suitable for cutting and stitching.
Panel Layout: Identify seams, panel divisions, mirror pockets, elastic edges and other required construction details.
Manufacturing Files: Supply dimensioned, correctly scaled files that can be used for fabric cutting, sampling and production.
Fit Validation: Help us validate the pattern against the vehicle model and revise it based on a physical prototype where required.
Expected Deliverables
Accurate 3D vehicle exterior model or cleaned surface model.
Custom-fit 3D cover surface/model.
Separate 2D patterns for the cover panels.
Dimensioned, scaled pattern files in a suitable CAD/vector format.
Editable source files and a preview rendering of the completed cover.
Revisions based on fit and manufacturing feedback.
Preferred Skills
Automotive 3D modelling and surface development.
Rhino 3D, Alias, CATIA, SolidWorks or comparable CAD tools.
3D-to-2D surface flattening or pattern development.
Textile, upholstery, marine-cover, tent, sail or technical fabric pattern-making experience.
Knowledge of cutting, seam allowances, fabric stretch and sewing construction.
Experience in marine covers, boat upholstery, protective equipment covers or other fitted fabric products is a strong advantage.
