We are looking for a mechanical engineer with strong experience in gear design, polymer gears and tribology.
We currently have a polymer gear pair with premature wear. Due to the mechanical assembly, one gear can move by a few millimetres relative to the other, creating misalignment and uneven tooth loading.
The project is divided into two stages.
Stage 1 – URGENT, required within 24–48 hours
Redesign the gear geometry to:
-tolerate the relative movement/misalignment between both gears;
-maintain proper meshing despite this movement;
-distribute the load as evenly as possible;
-minimize preferential wear of one gear compared with the other.
Once the new design is completed, the engineer should also simulate or otherwise quantitatively assess the wear of both the current and proposed designs, in order to estimate the expected reduction in wear achieved by the new geometry.
Expected Stage 1 deliverables:
-proposed gear concept and geometry;
-manufacturing-ready CAD / STEP files;
-brief technical justification;
-comparison of the current vs. proposed design, including an estimate of the expected wear reduction (done by simulation)
Stage 2 – Detailed Wear Simulation
In a second stage, we will provide a selected pair of polymer materials. The engineer should perform a more detailed wear/service-life simulation using the actual material properties and operating conditions.
Applicants may apply for Stage 1 only.
URGENT
Stage 1 is extremely urgent. Please apply only if you can start immediately and provide the proposed design within 24–48 hours.
