We are looking for a Senior Android Platform & Linux Systems Engineer to work on our virtualized Android infrastructure

This is a Linux/platform-heavy role with regular Android system-level work. You will work with Linux containers, ARM64 infrastructure, Android virtualization, Redroid/AOSP builds, system configuration, performance, and low-level debugging

We need real hands-on experience working below the Android application layer

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Build and maintain virtualized Android environments on Linux
- Work with Redroid or similar Android virtualization technologies
- Produce and maintain ARM64-compatible Android builds when required
- Debug Linux, container, Android boot, runtime, and performance issues
- Work with Android system components such as init, SELinux, Binder, native services, system properties, and permissions
- Modify Android system/framework/native components when needed
- Configure Android builds for required device profiles and system characteristics
- Maintain reliable ADB and CDP connectivity
- Investigate differences between physical Android devices and virtualized Android environments
- Optimize CPU, memory, startup time, and stability for multiple Android instances
- Produce reproducible builds and document important configuration changes
- Work with infrastructure, automation, scraping, and QA teams to identify and fix platform-level issues

MUST-HAVE SKILLS

- Strong Linux systems knowledge
- Good understanding of containers, processes, networking, filesystems, memory, and system debugging
- Experience with Docker or similar container technologies
- Experience with ARM64 Linux or Android environments
- C/C++ experience or confidence working with native system-level code
- Hands-on Android experience below the application layer
- Strong experience with ADB and debugging tools such as logcat, dumpsys, and dmesg
- Ability to independently diagnose complex system-level problems

Your Android platform experience may come from:

- AOSP
- Android Automotive
- Redroid / Waydroid
- LineageOS / GrapheneOS / custom ROMs
- Android device bring-up
- HAL development
- Binder
- Native Android services
- SELinux / init
- Android kernel work
- Android virtualization

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

- Experience building AOSP from source
- Experience modifying AOSP and producing custom Android images
- Redroid experience
- Cuttlefish, QEMU/KVM, or Android Emulator experience
- Android Automotive experience
- Custom ROM development
- Android kernel or HAL development
- Chromium/Chrome on Android
- Android NDK experience
- Experience running many Android instances on server infrastructure
- Familiarity with browser automation through CDP or Playwright

EXPECTED OWNERSHIP

We expect the engineer to own the Linux/Android platform layer

You should be able to take a system-level problem, identify whether it comes from Linux, containers, Android, virtualization, or build configuration, and implement the correct fix

When Android/AOSP changes are required, you should be able to make them directly or work effectively with a senior Android platform specialist reviewing the solution

PROJECT CONTEXT

We are building an Android virtualization platform for browser automation and scraping workloads

The current setup uses Redroid in Docker, external networking and proxy infrastructure, ADB connectivity, and browser automation through CDP

The current PoC primarily runs on x86/x64. The target architecture is ARM64

The role focuses on making Android run reliably and efficiently in this environment and modifying the Android platform when infrastructure configuration alone is not enough

The platform needs to support:

- ARM64 infrastructure
- Android Chrome/Chromium
- Reliable ADB connectivity
- Required Android/device profiles
- CDP-based browser automation
- Multiple Android instances running on server infrastructure

Infrastructure, proxy routing, scraping integration, and QA are handled by other team members.-

COMPENSATION

- Hourly rate based on relevant experience and technical depth
- Remote collaboration
- Flexible engagement based on project needs
- Performance bonuses for successful technical milestones
- Additional bonuses for solving complex platform, Android, or virtualization problems
- Long-term collaboration for strong and reliable performance

SELF-FILTERING

This is not a standard Android app development role

Experience mainly with Kotlin/Java applications, Jetpack, Android UI, or application-level SDK work is not enough

This is also not a standard DevOps role. Docker, cloud, or Kubernetes experience alone is not enough

You should have real experience debugging or modifying Android below the application layer

During the interview, we will ask you to walk us through a real Android platform or low-level systems problem you personally solved, including:

- The original problem
- How you investigated it
- The root cause
- The fix
- How you verified the result
