Role Overview
Position Title: Freelance Technical Sales Representative / Independent Sales Agent
Industry Focus: Industrial Automation, Material Handling, and Custom Metal Fabrication
Target Markets: Warehousing, packaging units, automotive plants, food processing, cement/steel industries, and general manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead Generation & Prospecting:
Identify and target prospective clients (plant managers, project heads, procurement teams, and operations directors) who require custom material handling solutions or structural/mechanical fabrication.
2. Technical Consultation & Needs Assessment:
Visit client sites or review technical drawings to understand their operational bottlenecks, layout limitations, and specs for conveyor systems (roller, belt, modular, screw conveyors) or fabrication projects (chutes, hoppers, structural platforms, machine guards).
3. Estimation & Proposal Management:
Coordinate with internal design, engineering, and workshop teams to calculate costs, draft accurate quotes, and pitch competitive proposals.
4. Relationship & Account Management:
Act as the primary liaison between the client and the manufacturing unit from initial pitch through to delivery, installation sign-off, and payment collection.
Core Requirements & Skills
Technical Aptitude: A strong background in mechanical engineering, industrial systems, or capital equipment sales. Ability to read basic CAD drawings or technical specifications is a strong plus.
Network: An existing rolodex or active network of contacts in manufacturing, FMCG, logistics, or heavy industries.
Negotiation & Closing: Proven capability to handle long B2B sales cycles, technical objections, and commercial negotiations.
Engagement & Compensation Models for Freelancers
Because this is a specialized technical sale, companies typically engage freelancers through performance-aligned structures:
Commission-Only / High-Retainer + Commission: A percentage-based cut per closed deal (often ranging between 3% to 10% depending on the order value and project margins), sometimes backed by a small monthly travel/phone stipend.
Per-Milestone Retainer: A fixed retainer for securing initial discovery meetings or generating qualified technical leads, supplemented by high performance bonuses upon contract finalization
