About React Skin

React Skin is an early-stage skincare brand being built in Orange County, California.

We’re building a modern skincare company with a strong point of view around product, design, content, and customer experience. We care deeply about creating a brand that feels premium, distinctive, culturally relevant, and exceptionally well executed across every customer touchpoint.

We’re looking for a Founding Ecommerce & Brand Designer who can help shape what React Skin becomes.

This is not a traditional graphic design role and it is not a pure Shopify developer role.

We want someone who can think across brand, packaging, ecommerce, Shopify, design, and conversion — and then actually execute.

You should be the type of person who can look at a Shopify store, immediately identify what feels generic or underdeveloped, redesign it in Figma, jump into Shopify and implement the changes yourself.

One day you may be designing product packaging. The next you may be rebuilding a product page, creating a landing page, improving the mobile experience, developing campaign creative, or adjusting CSS/Liquid to get something exactly right.

You’ll work directly with the founder and have significant influence over the visual and ecommerce direction of the brand.

What You'll Own

Shopify & Ecommerce

Help turn our Shopify store into a best-in-class ecommerce experience

Design and build high-converting homepages, product pages, landing pages, collection pages, and campaign experiences

Continuously improve the mobile shopping experience

Create reusable Shopify sections and components

Customize themes beyond what the Shopify editor provides

Make light HTML, CSS, Liquid, and JavaScript changes when needed

Evaluate and implement Shopify apps without unnecessarily bloating the store

Improve site speed, usability, navigation, merchandising, and conversion

Help build bundles, upsells, cross-sells, subscriptions, promotional experiences, and other AOV/CRO initiatives

Use customer behavior and performance data to continually improve the storefront

Brand & Creative

Help evolve the overall React Skin visual identity

Maintain consistency across typography, color, imagery, layout, and creative direction

Create campaign concepts and digital assets

Design paid social and organic creative when needed

Help establish a recognizable visual language for the brand

Research leading skincare, beauty, fashion, and DTC brands and bring relevant ideas into React Skin without copying competitors

Translate rough founder ideas and references into polished creative

Packaging

Design and evolve product packaging, bottles, labels, cartons, inserts, and other physical brand touchpoints

Work from printer and manufacturer dielines

Prepare production-ready packaging files

Understand print considerations such as bleeds, finishes, materials, Pantone/CMYK colors, typography, and label requirements

Work with manufacturers and vendors to turn concepts into physical products

Review samples and make recommendations on materials, finishes, sizing, and visual presentation

Conversion & Customer Experience

We don't just want things to look beautiful.

You should understand that design exists to help customers understand the product, trust the brand, and ultimately buy.

You'll think about:

Conversion rate

Product page structure

Social proof

Product education

Before/after and benefit communication

Offers and promotions

Bundles

Average order value

Upsells and cross-sells

Mobile usability

Checkout friction

Landing page performance

Customer trust

You don't need to be a dedicated CRO analyst, but you should understand modern DTC ecommerce fundamentals.

Who We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if:

You have approximately 3–7+ years of relevant ecommerce, brand, web, or DTC design experience

You have a strong portfolio that demonstrates exceptional visual taste

You've designed real ecommerce experiences, ideally for consumer brands

You're highly comfortable with Shopify

You're strong in Figma

You understand responsive web and mobile-first design

You're comfortable making light HTML/CSS/Liquid changes yourself

You understand branding beyond simply creating logos

You have experience with packaging or physical product design

You understand how design affects ecommerce conversion

You notice the tiny details that make a brand feel premium

You're comfortable working in an early-stage environment where priorities can move quickly

You're resourceful and able to figure things out without needing detailed instructions

You enjoy taking something from idea → design → implementation

Bonus Points

Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:

Beauty, skincare, wellness, fashion, or premium consumer brands

Klaviyo

Shopify subscriptions

Replo or similar Shopify landing page tools

Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop

Product photography or creative direction

Packaging production

Print vendors and manufacturers

Meta/TikTok advertising creative

A/B testing and CRO tools

Basic JavaScript

Shopify theme development

Analytics tools such as GA4 or Shopify Analytics

TikTok Shop

What We Don't Want

We're probably not the right fit if you:

Only want to create Figma designs and hand them to a developer

Need detailed instructions for every task

Have never worked inside Shopify

Prefer long approval processes and clearly defined corporate responsibilities

Care about aesthetics but don't think about conversion or business outcomes

Only specialize in one narrow area and don't enjoy wearing multiple hats

We're looking for someone scrappy, curious, opinionated, and execution-oriented.

If something looks wrong, we want you to notice it.

If you have a better idea, we want you to say it.

If something can be improved, we want you to take ownership of improving it.

Location

Remote within the United States.

React Skin is based in Orange County, California, and candidates located in Orange County, Los Angeles, or Southern California are strongly preferred.

There are no required weekly office days, but we'd love the ability to occasionally collaborate in person around packaging samples, product photography, creative sessions, launches, and other brand initiatives.

Exceptional candidates elsewhere in the United States are encouraged to apply.

Engagement

Contract

Approximately 15–25 hours per week to start, with the opportunity for the role and responsibility to grow significantly as the company grows.

We're looking for someone interested in becoming deeply involved with the brand rather than simply completing isolated freelance projects.

Compensation

$50–$75/hour, depending on experience, portfolio, and capabilities.

We're willing to pay toward the top of the range for someone who genuinely combines exceptional design taste, Shopify execution, packaging experience, and ecommerce thinking.

How to Apply

Please include:

A link to your portfolio

2–3 Shopify or ecommerce projects you're especially proud of

Any packaging or physical product design work you've completed

A brief explanation of what you personally designed and implemented on those projects

Your experience working directly inside Shopify

Your location and typical working hours

Your hourly rate

Please do not apply without a portfolio.

We're much more interested in the quality of your work, taste, initiative, and ability to execute than where you went to school or whether you have the perfect resume.

If you love building consumer brands and want the opportunity to help shape one from an early stage, we'd love to hear from you.
