Job Description
We are an international education company seeking an experienced Digital SAT Reading & Writing tutor to provide one-on-one online instruction to high school students preparing for the SAT.
We are specifically looking for a teacher with strong expertise in the College Board's Digital SAT Reading & Writing section, particularly Craft and Structure and Standard English Conventions.
This is not a general English conversation or ESL teaching position. We need someone who understands the SAT exam in depth and can teach practical strategies to improve accuracy, speed, and test performance.
Key Areas of Expertise
1. Craft and Structure
- Words in Context: determining vocabulary meaning using contextual clues.
- Text Structure and Purpose: identifying the main purpose and function of specific sentences or passages.
- Cross-Text Connections: comparing arguments, viewpoints, and evidence across passages.
- Strategies for eliminating incorrect answer choices.
- Techniques for answering challenging questions efficiently under time pressure.
2. Standard English Conventions
- Sentence boundaries, fragments, run-ons, and comma splices.
- Punctuation: commas, semicolons, colons, dashes, and apostrophes.
- Subject-verb agreement and verb forms.
- Pronouns, modifiers, and parallel structure.
- Sentence structure and grammatical accuracy.
- Recognizing common SAT traps and applying fast, reliable grammar rules.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience teaching Digital SAT Reading & Writing.
- Excellent command of American English grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.
- Exceptionally clear and easily understandable spoken English. Students must be able to follow explanations comfortably.
- Ability to simplify complex grammar rules and explain why each answer is correct or incorrect.
- Familiarity with the current Digital SAT format, Bluebook, and official College Board practice resources.
- Experience teaching teenagers individually through Zoom or similar platforms.
- Ability to provide structured lessons, targeted practice, and constructive feedback.
- Reliability, patience, and strong student engagement skills.
Application Requirements
Please include the following in your proposal:
1. How many years have you taught SAT Reading & Writing?
2. Have you taught the current Digital SAT format?
3. What strategies do you use to teach Craft and Structure questions?
4. How do you help students master Standard English Conventions and punctuation?
5. What is your hourly rate?
6. What is your time zone and weekly availability?
Mandatory: Short Video Demonstration
Please submit a 60–90-second, unedited video explaining ONE of the following:
- How to solve a difficult Digital SAT Words in Context question.
- How to distinguish between a comma, semicolon, and colon in SAT punctuation questions.
Explain the concept as though you were teaching a 15–17-year-old American high school student.
We will assess your English clarity, teaching approach, accuracy, and ability to make difficult concepts easy to understand.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a paid trial lesson.
We are looking for someone interested in a stable, long-term teaching opportunity.
Please apply only if you have specific Digital SAT Reading & Writing teaching experience.
