I’m developing a product that requires a bespoke USB cable capable of both fast charging and high-speed data transfer. I need someone who has already taken a cable idea from rough concept to factory-ready specification and can guide me through every engineering step.
Scope of work
• Translate my electrical and mechanical requirements into a complete cable specification—including conductor gauge, shielding, molding style, strain-relief, and connector pin-out that meet USB-IF guidelines.
• Document expected power-delivery performance (fast-charge) and data throughput so we can certify against the latest USB standards.
• Provide detailed drawings (2D/3D) and a bill of materials that a manufacturer can quote immediately.
• Advise on prototype builds, test fixtures, and any signal-integrity checks needed to confirm both charging current and data eye-patterns before mass production.
Why this matters
The cable will mate with a custom board driven by an in-house VLSI design, so clear guidance on impedance control and pin mapping is critical. If you have experience coordinating cable specs with ASIC or SoC teams, that’s a definite plus.
Deliverables
1. Complete specification document (PDF + native files)
2. Manufacturing drawings and STEP/IGES models of both ends
3. BOM with supplier part numbers and alternate sources
4. Test plan outlining fast-charge and data validation steps
5. Optional: Recommendations for certified factories capable of small pilot runs
Acceptance criteria
• Demonstrated support for at least 5 A / 100 W USB-PD and SuperSpeed data rates in simulation or bench tests.
• Files open cleanly in Altium or equivalent ECAD and a standard mechanical CAD package (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.).
• All materials and dimensions align with current USB-IF compliance rules.
If this is squarely in your wheelhouse, let’s discuss timelines and any early questions you have so we can move to prototyping without delay.
