I signed a residential lease at Collegetown in Conway, South Carolina so my daughter could live near campus. Just before move-in she realized the assigned roommate situation was unworkable, and I notified the complex in writing right away. Management acknowledges the notice but is now classifying the account as one-month delinquent and demanding the entire balance of the twelve-month lease.
I have not spoken with an attorney yet and need clear, practical legal guidance aimed at reducing—or, if possible, eliminating—the amount they say we owe. You will receive the signed lease, our written notice, all emails from the landlord, and the current payment demand.
Deliverables
• Written opinion (2–3 pages) that analyzes the lease terms alongside relevant South Carolina landlord–tenant statutes and case law
• Recommended strategy for negotiating or contesting the charge, including any statutory defenses (e.g., duty to mitigate, early-termination provisions, constructive eviction, etc.)
• Short template or talking points I can send to management while the matter is unresolved
• Letter from you- sent to management.
