FREELANCER ADVERT — AI / BACKEND SPECIALIST
Senior AI Systems & Backend Product Engineer — LLM/RAG/Evals/TypeScript
SHORT PROJECT BRIEF
We are looking for one exceptional hands-on AI/backend engineer to own and complete the AI intelligence and backend integration layer of an EXISTING consumer software product. The application, product specification and core platform already exist. The role is to make the AI reliable, grounded, testable and properly connected to the product's canonical state — not to build a chatbot demo.
The current product uses a TypeScript/serverless backend, structured application state, document/evidence ingestion, search/retrieval, external providers and AI-assisted workflows. A detailed V1.5 build specification already defines the required behaviours, state transitions, outputs and acceptance tests.
We will provide the detailed product logic, user journeys, domain research, knowledge/brain materials, representative cases and expected outcomes. We will do the information/research heavy lifting. Your job is to audit the current AI/backend implementation, preserve what is good, improve what is weak, complete the missing AI/backend work and build a repeatable evaluation/proof system so the product behaves reliably.
THIS IS NOT A PURE ML/RESEARCH ROLE
We need a production product engineer who understands LLM systems AND backend engineering: structured outputs, retrieval, tool/action boundaries, canonical state, queues/webhooks, idempotency, permissions, observability, provider abstraction and production testing.
To apply, please provide: relevant production AI/backend work; your approach to grounded LLM systems and evaluations; experience with TypeScript/serverless backends; how you would audit an inherited AI architecture; your quote for the initial audit and completion work; availability; and earliest start.
QUOTE BASIS
No budget figure is published. Quote on the assumption that the existing codebase is high quality and substantially reusable, the V1.5 product specification is already prepared to a high standard, and the commissioning team supplies the journeys, research, knowledge/brain material and non-code inputs. If your technical audit proves a material assumption wrong, identify and price that variance separately.

ANONYMOUS AI / BACKEND SPECIALIST BRIEF
DETAILED AI / BACKEND TECHNICAL BRIEF
1. Role objective
The objective is to make the application's AI layer a dependable product system rather than a collection of prompts. AI may extract, reason, rank, draft and suggest, but durable truth, permissions, external execution and irreversible state remain governed by ordinary backend software.
The specialist will work against an existing application and detailed V1.5 contract. The frontend/mobile work may be handled by another builder; this role owns the quality and integrity of the AI/backend interfaces that the rest of the product depends on.
2. What already exists
Area
Planning assumption
Backend
Existing TypeScript serverless API with authentication/authorisation, relational/structured product state, object storage and background execution.
AI routing
Existing gateway/model/search/retrieval components and structured AI workflows at varying levels of maturity.
Senior AI Systems & Backend Product Engineer — LLM / RAG / Evals / TypeScript
And the key positioning is:
We are not looking for a prompt engineer or someone to build a chatbot. We need a senior product engineer who can make an existing AI/backend system reliable, grounded, measurable and production-ready, while working efficiently with coding agents and the existing codebase.
