Figma UX/UI Designer – Existing Website Design Expansion | UK Based

We are looking for a practical, creative UX/UI designer with good Figma skills to help us expand and update an existing business website.

Please read this carefully: this is NOT a website or brand being created from scratch.

Most of the groundwork has already been completed.

What Is Already Provided

The successful designer will receive:

* Existing website design and visual direction
* Established brand identity
* Logo and brand assets
* Colour palette
* Typography/font guidelines
* Existing page designs and components
* Completed website content
* Defined page structures
* Detailed designer blueprints explaining each section
* CTA and user-journey direction
* Examples of the existing look and feel

The business has evolved and the website now needs additional and revised sections and pages.

Your job is to take the established design system and extend it intelligently and consistently across the updated website in Figma.

We are NOT asking you to:

* Create a new brand
* Develop a new visual identity
* Write the website content
* Create the website strategy
* Start the UX architecture from zero
* Develop or code the website

Much of that work has already been done.

Scope

There are approximately 14 principal pages across the website.

However, these should NOT be viewed as 14 completely different websites or 14 designs starting from blank screens.

Many elements, styles and components will naturally repeat across pages.

The designer's role is to understand the existing visual system, establish consistency and then apply and expand that system across the new page structures and content.

Both desktop and responsive/mobile design need to be considered.

Who We Are Looking For

We are not necessarily looking for somebody with 10 years of experience.

A talented designer with approximately 1–3 years of genuine commercial experience may be ideal, provided you can demonstrate good work and think intelligently about design.

You should have:

* Good practical Figma skills
* Strong understanding of modern website design
* Good typography and spacing
* Understanding of visual hierarchy
* Responsive/mobile design knowledge
* Ability to work with reusable components
* Good visual and graphic-design judgement
* Ability to interpret a written design blueprint
* Attention to consistency
* Ability to work within an existing brand rather than unnecessarily redesigning it

Most importantly, we want somebody who can understand what they are being given and then think for themselves.

We don't want to have to explain every button, spacing decision or visual treatment individually.

At the same time, this is not an opportunity to throw away the existing design system and introduce a completely different personal style.

The objective is to build on what already exists.

Location & Communication

UK-based designers are preferred.

You can be based anywhere in the UK, including **Manchester, Birmingham, London or elsewhere**. Being based in or around Manchester would be an advantage, particularly where an occasional face-to-face meeting may be useful, but it is not a requirement.

One of the reasons for recruiting within the UK is communication.

We want somebody who is comfortable:

* Speaking on the telephone
* Having video meetings
* Screen-sharing and discussing Figma designs
* Explaining their ideas
* Taking feedback
* Occasionally meeting face-to-face where practical

We do not want to manage the complete project through text messages alone.

How We Will Select the Designer

We are NOT asking applicants to complete unpaid sample designs.

We are also not running a design competition.

Instead, we will shortlist candidates based on their portfolio, experience, understanding of the brief and proposed price.

We will then arrange a telephone or video conversation with selected candidates.

During that conversation, we may show you examples of the existing website, design guidelines and designer blueprints.

We want you to talk us through what you understand, how you would approach the project and how you would translate the supplied material into the finished Figma designs.

We are interested in how you think as much as how well you operate Figma.

When Applying, Please Answer These Questions

Please don't send us a generic copy-and-paste proposal.

Tell us:

1. Where are you based?

2. How many years have you been working with UX/UI and Figma?

3. Please show us 2–4 examples of website/UI work that YOU personally designed.

4. What exactly did you personally do on those projects?

5. Have you previously worked with an existing brand/design system rather than designing everything from scratch?

6. Having read this description, explain briefly in your own words what you believe we are asking you to do.

7. Are you comfortable with telephone and video meetings?

8. If you are based around Manchester, are you comfortable occasionally meeting face-to-face?

9. How long would you expect the complete project to take?

10. What is your fixed price for completing the project?

Please start your application with:

“I understand that the design system already exists.”

This helps us identify people who have actually read the project description.

Budget

Fixed-price project – budget up to £1,000.

Please quote your genuine fixed price.

We are not automatically selecting the cheapest applicant.

Equally, because the branding, content, page structure, visual direction and designer blueprints already exist, please price the project on the basis that **you are expanding an established system rather than creating an entire website design and brand from scratch.

Longer-Term Opportunity

This is important.

We have considerably more design work beyond this project.

We are deliberately looking for somebody we can get to know and who can learn how we work.

If we find the right person, good design ability, reliable, easy to communicate with and commercially sensible, we would like to continue giving them further projects.

This could develop into regular ongoing work and, potentially, a more permanent opportunity in the future.

For this first project, however, we are looking for a clear fixed-price agreement with defined deliverables.

Good work, good communication and reliability can lead to considerably more work with us.
