I am developing an ergonomic stainless-steel water bottle that houses a three-stage filtration system—sediment, activated carbon, and a resin layer—and need an engineer or industrial designer to turn the concept into a production-ready prototype.
The brief
• Bottle body, cap, and any internal hardware must be food-grade 304/316 stainless steel.
• Filters slot in sequentially and can be replaced individually; overall filter cartridge should remain under 60 mm in length so the bottle keeps a comfortable handhold.
• Form factor must feel ergonomic for daily carry but avoid odd curves that complicate CNC or hydroforming. Think sleek taper, good grip points, and a capacity of roughly 600–700 ml.
• Proof-of-concept only, yet tolerances, sealing surfaces, and assembly steps should already anticipate mass production.
What I expect from you
1. 3D CAD files (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or STEP) showing the bottle, cap, seal, and modular filter assembly.
2. Basic FEA or wall-thickness justification so we know it survives a drop test.
3. Exploded renderings and a concise BOM noting stainless grades, filter media specs, and gasket materials.
4. Guidance on prototype manufacturing—recommended processes, estimated tooling, and any critical QC checks for the filter stages.
Acceptance criteria
• Assembled unit passes a leak test at 1 bar for 5 minutes.
• Filter cartridge can be swapped without tools in under 15 seconds.
• Overall weight stays below 450 g empty.
If you’ve designed drinkware or inline filters before, please share examples or quick sketches so I can gauge fit. Let’s get this prototype right the first time and pave the way to full-scale production.
