I'm looking for an experienced mechanical engineer or product designer to review and update an existing CAD model and engineering drawing for a Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) component.
The goal is to create a production-ready engineering package that can be submitted directly to injection molding suppliers for tooling quotes and manufacturing.
Scope of Work
• Review existing CAD model and engineering drawing.
• Update dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and engineering notes.
• Evaluate the design for TPE injection molding best practices.
• Recommend improvements for manufacturability, including draft angles, wall thickness, radii, and parting line considerations.
• Identify potential molding issues such as warpage, sink, flash, knit lines, and undercuts.
• Apply GD&T where appropriate.
• Prepare a final engineering package suitable for supplier RFQs and tooling review.
Deliverables
• Updated CAD files (native format and STEP).
• Production-ready engineering drawing (PDF and native format).
• TPE material specification and recommended Shore hardness.
• Summary of design changes and manufacturing recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience designing parts for injection molding.
• Experience with TPE materials.
• Strong knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturability).
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar CAD software.
• Experience creating production-ready drawings and documentation.
Proposal Requirements
• Your experience designing TPE or injection-molded components.
• CAD software you will use.
• Examples of similar projects.
• Experience with GD&T and manufacturing tolerances.
• Experience working with tooling suppliers or injection molders.
The objective is not prototype development. The objective is a tooling-ready CAD model and engineering package that can be sent directly to injection molding suppliers for quotation and production review.
Please note: I expect to spend approximately 1 to 2 weeks reviewing candidates and proposals before making a final selection. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate relevant injection molding, TPE, and manufacturing documentation experience.
