I’m building an online editor aimed at teachers, parents and young authors who want to craft children’s stories without the clutter of heavy design tools. The core of the project is a clean, text-based interface that loads quickly on any modern browser and keeps the writer focused on the narrative.
What I need you to deliver
• A web-ready story editor that supports rich-text formatting (bold, italics, headings, lists, links) while maintaining a simple, book-style feel.
• Built-in spell-check so writers can catch mistakes on the fly.
• Auto-save that silently saves every few seconds and stores drafts in local storage and the database, preventing data loss if the page closes.
• Real-time editing for two or more users on the same story, with visual cursors so collaborators see each other’s positions as they type.
Technical notes
I’m comfortable with mainstream front-end stacks—React, Vue or Svelte—and a Node or Firebase back end, but I’m open if you have a stronger recommendation. Please keep the code modular so new features like commenting or full version history can be slotted in later.
Acceptance criteria
1. Editor loads in under two seconds on a typical 4G connection.
2. Rich-text formatting, spell-check and auto-save work in Chrome, Edge and Safari.
3. Two browser windows can edit the same story simultaneously with changes reflected in under 300 ms.
4. The project ships with a concise README covering setup, build, and deployment steps.
If you’ve built collaborative editors, word processors or similar real-time apps, I’d love to see a demo or code sample.
