I am seeking a Taipei-based research assistant for a private art-history research project focused primarily on 20th-century Taiwanese and Chinese artists, particularly artists active in Taiwan during the mid-20th century.

The project involves building detailed research files on individual artists and artworks using historical publications and archival sources, with particular emphasis on materials that are not readily available through online research.

The work will include reviewing artist monographs, exhibition catalogues, museum publications, collection catalogues, period newspapers and magazines, auction catalogues, archival photographs, and other scholarly or primary-source material.

Responsibilities may include:

* Locating relevant books, catalogues and archival materials in Taiwanese libraries, museums, universities and research institutions.
* Reviewing Traditional Chinese-language sources for information concerning specific artists and artworks.
* Identifying and documenting artworks illustrated or discussed in historical publications.
* Photographing or scanning relevant pages and artwork reproductions when permitted.
* Recording artist, title, date, medium, dimensions, catalogue/plate number, inscriptions or signatures, provenance, exhibition history, collection information and bibliographic references.
* Comparing different publications to establish the most complete possible documentary history for individual artworks.
* Locating historical photographs of artists, studios, exhibitions and collections and identifying artworks visible in those photographs when possible.
* Maintaining well-organized digital files, bibliographies and research spreadsheets with precise source and page citations.
