I need a licensed structural engineer to review the attached shop drawing, perform the required wind-load calculations, and provide an engineered, signed, and sealed drawing suitable for project submittal.
The existing design includes:
* 7'-0" high fixed-knot game fence
* Permeable 75% windscreen fabric with grommeted hems
* 2-1/2" O.D. steel line posts at 8'-0" on center maximum
* 3" O.D. terminal, corner, end, pull, and gate posts
* Continuous top rail and bottom tension wire
* Concrete-set posts
* Typical footing currently shown as 12" diameter and 42" deep
The goal is to keep the fence design exactly as shown whenever structurally feasible. Please do not change the post spacing, post sizes, fence height, rail configuration, or footing design unless the calculations demonstrate that a change is required.
Engineering scope shall include:
* Calculate wind loads using the applicable building code and ASCE 7 requirements adopted by the project jurisdiction.
* Account for the actual porosity/open-area characteristics of the 75% windscreen using manufacturer data or another defensible engineering method.
* Verify line posts, terminal posts, top rail, bracing, connections, windscreen attachments, post spacing, concrete footing diameter, and embedment depth.
* Consider project wind speed, exposure category, risk category, topographic factors, soil conditions, and other applicable site criteria.
* Identify any required material specifications, including pipe wall thickness, steel grade, concrete strength, and connection requirements.
* Provide complete structural calculations signed and sealed by the engineer.
* Provide a final signed and sealed shop drawing. The engineer may revise or reproduce the attached drawing under their own title block as required to take professional responsibility for the design.
If the design does not pass as currently shown, recommend the smallest practical modification. Vents or reinforced openings may be cut into the windscreen if necessary to reduce wind loading. Any required vent size, spacing, location, and edge reinforcement must be clearly detailed. Changes to post sizes, spacing, bracing, or footings should only be recommended if vents or other minor adjustments are insufficient.
The selected engineer must hold an active Professional Engineer license in the project state and be authorized to seal this type of structural work. Please include your licensed states, relevant fence or windscreen design experience, anticipated turnaround time, and fixed fee in your proposal.
The exact project location, governing jurisdiction, design criteria, available geotechnical information, windscreen product data, and editable drawing files will be provided to the selected engineer.
