Senior Structural Engineer - Modular Steel / Aluminum Building System
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We seek an experienced structural engineer to lead a feasibility study for STEEL ONE, a modular cage-block building technology. Three initial overall sizes are 4 ft × 10 ft × 10 in, 2 ft × 3 ft × 10 in, and 3 ft × 6 ft × 10 in. We are evaluating load-bearing and non-load-bearing versions and steel, aluminum, and hybrid frame alternatives.
SCOPE OF WORK
• Review preliminary concepts and identify credible structural systems and load paths.
• Define preliminary design criteria and required project assumptions (intended use, code jurisdiction, spans, wind/seismic and gravity loads).
• Compare steel, aluminum, and hybrid cage configurations, including stiffness, buckling, connections and fire-related limitations.
• Propose conceptual module-to-module, base, top, and opening-edge structural connections.
• Identify structural analyses, prototype testing, acceptance criteria and certification needs.
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
• Written feasibility report with major risks, assumptions and recommended configuration.
• Marked-up concept drawings / connection sketches.
• Preliminary calculation package clearly identifying unverified assumptions.
• Roadmap and scope for subsequent engineered and sealed drawings.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
• Structural engineering degree and significant building-structure experience.
• Experience in modular/prefabricated construction and steel/aluminum design.
• Working knowledge of applicable ASCE 7, AISC and Aluminum Design Manual provisions.
• Appropriate professional engineering license for any jurisdiction-specific sign-off (California experience desirable).
HOW TO APPLY
Include two comparable structural projects, your license/jurisdiction (if any), an initial scope and milestones, and the information you need to begin.
PROJECT TERMS
Remote collaboration; initial scope is a milestone-based paid engineering study. Specify your fee and timeline. All output should be clearly labeled by revision. Confidentiality and intellectual-property assignment terms will be agreed before detailed technical disclosure
