About the project
I'm building a listening-training tool that helps people understand colleagues from different English-speaking backgrounds. The idea is simple: the effort of being understood shouldn't fall only on the speaker. This tool helps the listener do their part.
I'm looking for people who grew up in India and use English at work or in their studies to record 30 short, realistic workplace sentences, like what you'd hear in a software team standup, a code review, or a job interview.
We're not looking for voice actors or "neutral" accents. We want people who sound exactly like themselves at work.
Key responsibilities
1. Read 30 short English sentences aloud, based on realistic tech workplace situations like team standups, code reviews, and job interviews.
2. Speak naturally, exactly as you would at work, without slowing down, changing, or exaggerating your accent.
3. Record in a quiet room using a smartphone or computer, following the provided recording instructions (about 30 minutes, no more than 1 hour including retakes).
4. Send a short test recording before the full session so we can check audio quality.
5. Rerecord any sentences with mistakes or background noise.
6. Upload your finished recording to a private shared folder using the provided file name.
7. Sign a short consent form and complete a brief info sheet (region, languages spoken, and field of work or study).
Candidate preferences
Comfortable reading English aloud.
1. All accents welcome. No voice or acting experience needed, and please don't change how you normally speak.
2. Experience in software/IT is a plus.
3. A smartphone or computer with a working microphone, and a quiet place to record. No special equipment needed.
4. We want a mix of regions and backgrounds across India, so please tell us where you grew up.
Pay
$15 (about ₹1,400) for the full task, paid on completion.
Consent and respect
Before recording, you'll sign a short release explaining how your recordings will be used.
Timeline
Recordings need to be completed between September 28 and October 2.

"Quick update from my side. Yesterday we deployed version 2.4 of the authentication service to the staging environment, but the integration tests failed because of a dependency conflict with the older database driver. I've rolled back the release and opened a ticket to upgrade the driver. The other issue is throughput: under heavy load, response times are jumping from about three hundred milliseconds to almost two seconds, so I'm profiling the thread pool and checking whether the cache is invalidating too often. If everything works, we should be ready to redeploy by Thursday and move to production early next week."
