We are seeking an experienced, honest, talented and professional WordPress developer/designer to rebuild and complete an established sports media website. The existing website is hosted on SiteGround and currently uses an older WordPress/page-builder structure. We want the revised website built primarily with GeneratePress and the native WordPress Gutenberg Block Editor.

Our objective is to create a professional, visually attractive, fast-loading, mobile-responsive and SEO-friendly sports media website that is easy for a non-technical owner to maintain. We already have an existing website, content, branding, approved design direction, detailed mockups, graphics, links, videos and other assets. We are not asking someone to invent the website from scratch. The selected Freelancer will primarily be responsible for professionally implementing our approved concepts, organizing the content, rebuilding the website, optimizing it and thoroughly testing it before launch.

The project consists of approximately 16 primary pages/sections plus several standard legal/disclosure pages. Several pages will share a reusable master template, so this is not 16 completely different custom page designs. Other important pages have specialized layouts for which we have already developed mockups. We intentionally are not identifying the website, individual pages, proprietary features or business strategy in this public posting. Approximately five finalists will privately receive the complete page list, detailed page-by-page specifications, design mockups, available assets and additional project information before we select the Freelancer.

The revised website should primarily use WordPress, GeneratePress and Gutenberg. Strong experience with WordPress, GeneratePress/Gutenberg, SiteGround, responsive development, website rebuilds, reusable blocks/patterns, RSS/news-feed integration, websites containing large numbers of internal and external links, SEO, security and performance optimization is preferred. Experience with professional sports in the United States and Canada, media, news, affiliate or other content-heavy websites would be particularly helpful.

It is very important that the completed website be easy for a non-technical owner to maintain. Routine changes such as replacing an image or video, editing a headline, changing a link, publishing content, or replacing a promotional block should not require hiring a developer every time. Appropriate reusable Gutenberg blocks, patterns or another lightweight GeneratePress solution should be used where practical. Basic instructions for making routine updates must be provided at completion.

The existing live website must not be damaged or prematurely removed during development. The rebuild should be performed in an appropriate staging/development environment. The existing page-builder structure should not be removed until the new GeneratePress/Gutenberg website has been approved and confirmed stable. The website will remain hosted on SiteGround.

The website contains a substantial number of internal and external links. We do not want visitors being routinely sent to dead or missing pages. The selected Freelancer must implement or recommend an appropriate method for ongoing broken-link monitoring and verify important internal and external links before launch.

The entire website must function professionally on desktop, tablet and mobile. Mobile usability is particularly important. There should be no horizontal scrolling, overlapping content, broken grids, distorted images, unusable menus or other obvious responsive-design problems.

The finished website must also be lightweight and fast. Work should include appropriate image optimization, lazy loading where appropriate, caching configuration, removal of unnecessary plugins and unused themes, reduction of unnecessary CSS/JavaScript where practical, identification of plugin conflicts and correction of PHP/JavaScript errors. Overall website performance and Core Web Vitals should be taken into consideration.

Standard WordPress SEO should be properly configured, including XML sitemap, robots.txt, canonical URLs, meta-title and meta-description capability, Open Graph metadata, X/Twitter metadata, appropriate schema/structured data and clean URL structure. SSL/HTTPS, administrator security, login security, spam protection where appropriate, backups and appropriate SiteGround security settings should also be verified.

Our target launch date is September 1, 2026. We anticipate that an experienced Freelancer who can devote appropriate time and work effort to the project should be able to complete the build and testing in up to approximately seven calendar days from commencement, depending upon expertise and workflow. Please do not bid if your existing workload will prevent you from giving this project the attention necessary to meet the deadline. Quality must not be sacrificed simply to finish quickly.

Before completion, the website must be thoroughly tested for internal and external links, navigation, forms, images, videos, feeds, desktop/tablet/mobile display, SSL/HTTPS, performance and general functionality. Cross-browser testing should include Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. The production website should contain no Lorem Ipsum, test material, missing images, placeholder text, broken layouts or obvious dead links.

At completion, the Freelancer will be expected to provide a production-ready website, a list of installed plugins, documentation of any custom CSS or code, confirmation of link and responsive testing, confirmation that required legal/disclosure pages are properly published and linked, and basic handoff instructions explaining how the owner can manage routine website updates.

Unfortunately, we previously selected a web developer who failed to deliver the work promised, resulting in a financial loss to us. As a result, we now have a limited remaining budget to complete this project. Trust, communication and reliability are therefore extremely important. We are looking for someone who is honest, talented, dependable and professional and who can complete the project correctly within our limited available budget.

This definitely has the potential to become a long-term relationship. If the selected Freelancer performs excellent work, communicates well, proves his or her honesty, and proves dependable, we intend to consider paying that person a monthly retainer after launch to help with website edits, adjustments, fixes, improvements, future features, performance and generally working with Jay to keep the website fresh, attractive, professional and updated. We would much rather develop a relationship with one dependable WordPress professional who understands our website than continually hire different Freelancers.

NO SEALED BIDS will be accepted or considered. Because of our previous experience, we will only consider established Freelancers with genuine client reviews and a completed-project history. PLEASE DO NOT BID using a NEW Freelancer account with NO reviews or completed-project history.

PLEASE READ this entire project proposal from beginning to end before bidding. Your bid must be your actual good-faith bid for completing the project described here and not a low placeholder bid submitted simply to get our attention. Approximately five finalists will receive our private detailed specifications and mockups before anyone is hired. If those materials reveal something legitimately outside the scope described in this public proposal, it can be discussed before a contract is awarded, but the initial bid should represent what you genuinely expect to charge for the project described here.

Please refer to me as JAY. Your proposal must begin with “LET'S BALL — HI JAY.” Briefly describe your relevant experience, provide examples of websites you have personally designed or developed, and indicate your experience with WordPress, GeneratePress/Gutenberg, SiteGround and similar content-heavy websites. Please also state when you can begin, your realistic completion time, your actual fixed-price bid, and whether you would be interested in an ongoing monthly maintenance relationship after successful completion.

At the very bottom of your proposal, please include this exact statement:

I have read the entire project proposal from top to bottom. I understand the requirements, and I confirm that my bid is the amount I am prepared to complete the project for and is not a placeholder bid.

If this statement is missing, your proposal will not be considered.

We expect to narrow the applicants to approximately five finalists. Only those finalists will receive the complete private page list, detailed page-by-page requirements, design mockups, functionality specifications, asset information and additional proprietary project information. Finalists will have an opportunity to review those materials and ask legitimate technical questions before we make our final selection.

Target launch: September 1, 2026. LET'S BALL. Thanks so much. Jay
