Python Hematology Barcode Decoder

I have several raw barcode strings taken from Different hematology reagent bottles (for example, C008C0F396C0681690). From those strings the analyzer derives three critical pieces of information: lot number, reagent volume, and expiry date.

Your task is to study the sample strings I will supply, work out how each character or bit maps to those fields, and deliver a compact Python solution that can both decode existing barcodes and build new, machine-acceptable ones.

What I expect
• A short write-up (markdown or PDF) explaining the data structure you uncovered and any maths or look-up tables involved.
• A well-commented Python module that exposes:
– decode(raw_string) → {lot, volume, expiry}
– encode(lot, volume, expiry) → raw_string
The encode routine must calculate whatever checksum or padding the analyzer demands.
• Simple unit tests that show:
– Correct field extraction from all samples I provide.
– Validation that the expiry date is in the expected format.
– Confirmation that decoded lot numbers match a list I will pass to you.

Preferred stack: pure Python 3 using hashlib, binascii, or any light-weight math you find appropriate. No external GUI or database work is needed.
