I need a small, reliable Python script that will tidy up my files for me. Each time I run it, the program should let me pick a source folder through a prompt or simple dialog. Once I choose that folder, the script must inspect every item, decide its category purely by file type (e.g., photos, documents, videos, etc.), create matching sub-folders inside a new destination directory, and copy the originals into those new spots—never move or delete the source files.

Key expectations
• Written in clean, idiomatic Python 3 with clear comments so I can tweak the file-type mappings later.
• Works on both Windows and macOS paths.
• Handles naming conflicts gracefully (e.g., adds a suffix if a file with the same name already exists in the target).
• Generates a short log of what was copied and where.

Deliverables
1. The .py file.
2. A concise README explaining how to run it, required libraries (standard libraries preferred), and how to adjust or extend the file-type rules.

I’ll consider the task complete once I can point the script at any folder, watch it copy items into neatly labeled sub-folders by type, and confirm the originals remain untouched.
