I have a 6′ 2″ hollow-plastic alien that still looks like it just came out of the mould. I want it to stand in my home theatre and pass for a screen-used prop, so the job is all about paintwork and finishing.
The look I’m after is a realistic creature with layered skin tones, subtle mottling, highlights, shadows and very fine veining—nothing cartoonish or “toy” bright. Think lifelike biology: translucent washes over a base coat, airbrushed shading in the folds, and hand-brushed details that make the skin feel almost touch-sensitive.
Key areas where I want extra attention:
• Skin texture and wrinkles—micro-shading, depth, and a slightly clammy sheen.
• Eyes, teeth, and mouth—high-gloss, wet look with natural gradients and tiny capillaries.
• Claws, hands, and feet—gradient fades from nail to flesh, weathered edges, and a clear protective coat.
The overall mood should read as simply believable skin, neither overtly scary nor stylised—just something that looks convincingly alive under normal room lighting.
Deliverable:
• Fully painted and sealed statue, ready for indoor display, with a satin-to-semi-gloss clear coat that protects high-touch areas.
• Progress photos at primer, mid-tone, and final detailing stages so I can sign off before the sealant goes on.
Preferred techniques include airbrush work for broad gradients, fine hand-brush for micro-details, and professional-grade acrylics or urethanes followed by a UV-stable clear coat. If you need the piece shipped, let me know your location so we can plan safe transport both ways.
