We're an AI-native team building an AI-powered 1-on-1 math tutoring product for K-12 students. Every lesson we build goes through expert review before it ever reaches a student, and we're looking for experienced math educators to do that review.
This is not a tutoring job. You won't be teaching real students. Instead, you'll play two roles in one session:
1. **Play a 5th grader** — engage naturally with our AI math tutor the way a real one would (asking questions, making common mistakes, sometimes staying quiet or confused)
2. **Evaluate the lesson as a professional educator** — assess whether the AI tutor taught the lesson effectively, following a structured rubric
Your feedback will directly shape how our AI teaches real students. This is a rare chance to shape how AI teaches math from the ground up.
**What You'll Do**
- Complete a simulated lesson session (5th grade math) by roleplaying as a student while interacting with our AI tutor
- At the same time, evaluate the lesson quality as a professional educator — this is the core of the role. Specifically, assess:
- **Content accuracy**: Are the math explanations, problem-solving steps, and difficulty level correct and grade-appropriate?
- **Teaching strategy**: Does the AI tutor guide the student well — asking follow-up questions instead of giving away answers, breaking down concepts at the right pace, adapting when the student struggles?
- **Overall lesson experience**: Does the lesson feel engaging and age-appropriate? Does it flow naturally, or does it feel robotic, repetitive, or confusing?
- **Red flags**: Any incorrect math, inappropriate content, or moments where the AI tutor completely breaks the lesson flow
- Write specific, structured feedback (what happened, what should have happened, why it matters, which category above it falls under) — not general impressions like "it felt off"
- Optionally, provide input on edge cases or unusual student behaviors we should test for
**Requirements**
- 3+ years of K-12 math teaching experience (elementary/upper elementary preferred, matching 5th grade)
- Familiarity with U.S. elementary classrooms — how American 5th graders talk about math, where they typically get stuck, and what common misconceptions look like
- Comfortable working independently and following detailed evaluation guidelines
- Reliable internet connection and a quiet space for sessions
**Compensation & Format**
- Format: 100% remote, session-based, flexible scheduling
- Pay: \$30-50 per session (\~30-60 min)
- Paid pilot session: All shortlisted candidates complete a paid pilot (same lesson set for everyone) before full onboarding — you're paid regardless of outcome
- High-performing reviewers may be invited to take on a Senior Evaluator role (rubric design, adjudicating disagreements) with higher compensation
