I want to give travellers an easy way to work out, from their everyday spending and current credit-card line-up, which hotel loyalty program and card strategy will earn them the most points. The assistant’s single goal is to analyse a user’s credit cards, map each spending category against the latest earning rates, promos, and transfer bonuses, then return a clear, ranked plan that maximises hotel points.
Here’s how I picture the first version coming together:
• A short web form (or CLI if faster) where the user lists each card they hold and enters their average monthly spend by category.
• A calculation engine that looks up current earn rates, multipliers, and known limited-time promos, totals the projected annual haul for every card-hotel pairing, and flags any relevant sign-up bonuses the user still qualifies for.
• A results screen that explains, in plain language, the best card to swipe for each category, the optimal hotel program to funnel points into, and how many points the user can expect in a year. An exportable PDF or shareable link would be ideal.
• Clear, well-commented data tables (CSV/JSON) so I can update card earn rates and promo windows without touching the core code.
• A small test suite with at least three sample spend profiles and the expected outputs, proving the maths is solid.
Use whatever stack you’re fastest in (Python + Flask, Node + Express, or a lightweight React front end) as long as I can run it locally without paid dependencies. Clean, modular code and concise documentation will be the key acceptance criteria.
