Home cooks in Ethiopia needed to photograph and weigh home-cooked meals for an AI food project.
IMPORTANT: Only freelancers who live in Ethiopia right now can be accepted. Please do not bid if you are outside Ethiopia.
We are Adwa Digital Data Solutions, and we are collecting real home-cooked meal data for an international AI food recognition and nutrition project. You cook your normal meals at home in your own kitchen and document each one with your smartphone while you cook. No cooking experience beyond everyday home cooking is needed, but attention to detail is essential.
What you will do for each meal:
1. Cook a real home meal in your own kitchen. Packaged or ready-made dishes are not accepted.
2. Weigh every ingredient on a digital kitchen scale, including oil, water, salt, berbere, spices, niter kibbeh and garnishes. Peel onions, garlic and ginger before weighing, and weigh rice, lentils, shiro powder and grains raw. Set the scale to 0 with the bowl on it before each ingredient, and pour liquids like oil and water into a small cup to weigh them. Always write the type of oil used.
3. Take two photos of every ingredient: one ON the scale with the weight clearly readable, and one OFF the scale with no part of the scale anywhere in the photo with a clean background. Do not crop the scale out, take a new photo.
4. For packaged ingredients such as packaged berbere or mitmita, spice mixes, tomato paste or stock cubes, also photograph the front and back of the package.
5. Plate one serving and take one clear photo plus a 3 to 5 second video moving slowly around the plate.
6. Upload all photos and the video to a Google Drive folder (one folder per meal) and fill in our spreadsheet template with the dish name, city, weights and photo links.
Each meal must be a different Ethiopian home dish. For example: shiro wot, misir wot, doro wot, key wot, alicha, beef tibs, gomen, atkilt wot, firfir, kik alicha, dulet, chechebsa.
Requirements:
• Living in Ethiopia
• A digital kitchen scale that shows grams
• A smartphone with a good camera
• A Google account (Drive and Sheets)
• Able to follow a detailed photo checklist carefully
