I need a production-ready USB dongle that can sit in any laptop or desktop port and act as the single receiver for a fleet of wearable Collector Kits. The core requirements are:
• Frequency: the RF front-end must operate on 868 MHz or 915 MHz so the same board can be stuffed for either region.
• Power: the board is strictly bus-powered; no external barrel jack or battery input.
• Capacity: it has to listen to, and reliably demodulate, traffic from roughly 25 simultaneous Collector Kits before forwarding the raw payloads to the host over a simple USB-CDC (UART) stream.
This is a ground-up, chip-level design. Place the transceiver IC, MCU/USB bridge, matching network, crystal, ESD protection, and supporting passives directly on the PCB—no breakout modules or dev boards. Careful RF layout, impedance control, and enclosure clearance are essential to keep the finished stick compact and professional, similar in size to a commercial Wi-Fi dongle.
Deliverables
1. KiCad Schematic, Optimised 1- or 2-layer PCB layout with manufacturing notes
2. Complete production files BOM with sourcing links, Gerber/ODB++ files, pick-and-place, and assembly drawing
3. Assist in ordering in the manufacturer's portal (JLCPCB, PCBWay, etc.) for 5 samples.
4. Technical documentation
I will handle regulatory certification later, but please keep ETSI/FCC guidelines in mind during the design so we are not forced into major re-spins. If you have prior LoRa RF experience and can quickly turn a neat, manufacturable USB stick, let’s talk.
