Custom Floral Print Design Brief

Project: Custom floral fabric print for women’s maternity and nursing sleepwear

Reference: Attached floral pyjama design

1. Design Direction

We would like to create a custom floral print inspired by the attached pyjama reference.

The overall aesthetic should be delicate, feminine, timeless and understated, with a soft vintage, heirloom feel.

The print should look elegant, refined and luxurious rather than overly busy, bold or playful.

We particularly love the tiny scattered flowers, soft colouring and delicate appearance of the reference design.

2. Floral Design

We would like the design to feature:

* Small, delicate floral bouquets and sprigs, similar to those in the reference image.
* Tiny flowers in soft blush pink, dusty peach and muted cream tones.
* Fine, natural-looking stems and leaves in subtle sage green and warm taupe.
* A slightly faded, hand-painted or watercolour-inspired appearance.
* Flowers scattered naturally across the fabric, with generous negative space between them.
* Subtle variations in the floral arrangements to create an organic, natural appearance.

Please avoid large flowers, dense arrangements, bold colours or overly repetitive geometric patterns.

The overall effect should be soft and romantic without feeling overly traditional or childish.

The floral colours should be subtle and complement the ivory background.

3. Print Scale and Layout

The print should be very fine and delicate, similar in scale to the reference image.

Our preferences are:

* Small floral bouquets approximately 1–2 cm in height, with some natural variation.
* Plenty of ivory background visible between the floral elements.
* An airy, balanced arrangement that does not appear crowded.
* Natural spacing and positioning to avoid an overly uniform appearance.
* A seamless repeating pattern suitable for continuous fabric printing.

The repeat should be subtle, without obvious joins or visible pattern blocks.

4. Initial Design Concepts

We would appreciate 2–3 initial floral print concepts exploring slightly different interpretations of the reference.

For example:

* Option 1 — Vintage Rosebud: Tiny scattered blush rosebuds with fine sage-green leaves.
* Option 2 — Antique Meadow: Delicate floral sprigs in muted peach, dusty pink and taupe, with generous ivory space.
* Option 3 — Classic Ditsy Floral: Very small, softly coloured flowers with a slightly more traditional vintage appearance.

All concepts should retain the same warm ivory background and delicate overall aesthetic.

Please present each concept as both a flat fabric print and a mockup on our existing pyjama designs.

5. Final Artwork and File Requirements

The final approved print must be supplied as fully editable vector artwork suitable for professional textile manufacturing.

* Seamless repeat pattern: Suitable for continuous fabric printing without visible joins.
* Repeat dimensions: Exact measurements of the repeating pattern tile in centimetres.
* Colour specifications: Including Pantone references where possible.

The artwork must be suitable for direct submission to our clothing manufacturer for fabric printing

8. Originality and Ownership

The reference photograph is intended as inspiration for the overall aesthetic, scale and colour palette.

We would like the designer to create an original floral pattern exclusively
For us, rather than directly copying an existing commercial print.

Upon final payment, we should receive full ownership of the final approved artwork, including the right to reproduce, modify and use the design commercially on current and future products.

The final design should not be resold, licensed or reused for other brands.

9. Overall Objective

Our goal is to create a signature floral print that feels timeless, premium and beautifully considered.

We want a print that a mother would love to wear, both during pregnancy and long after.

It should feel feminine and luxurious, with a soft vintage charm that remains fresh and modern.

The most important elements are the small scale of the flowers, the subtle muted colours, the warm ivory background and the generous spacing between the floral motifs.

We would prefer the final design to be slightly too understated rather than too busy.
