About the Project
We're developing a folk horror Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting and adventure module, drawing tonal inspiration from The Wicker Man, Midsommar, Animal Farm, and rural British folklore. The world is one of deceptive pastoral beauty with idyllic villages, lush countryside, and quiet communities that conceal something far darker beneath the surface.
A core visual feature of the setting is its cast of anthropomorphic animal peoples. We have put together over 20 original species drawn from folklore, each with distinct silhouettes, temperaments, and design language. We're especially interested in artists experienced with anthro/furry character design who can ground these species in a believable, lived-in rural world
We're building a full hardcover book (roughly 50 commissioned illustrations) - ultimately we're going to crowdfund the development of the module, but in the interim we're looking for commercial-use art for the project. Featured artists could be part of the crowdfunding campaign.
What We're Looking For:
We're seeking illustrators who can work in a grounded, atmospheric, pastoral-horror style. Strong environmental and character work is especially valuable; we're also interested in artists who can handle subtle unease without leaning on overt gore or shock horror.
Work may include:
Character portraits (original species/lineages, NPCs)
Environmental and location art
Creature and monster illustrations
Small spot art / chapter headers
What We Offer
Paid commissions (rate discussed per scope/style)
Clear creative briefs with reference material and tone guides
Credit in the published book
Collaborative, low-pressure workflow: we're not launching the crowdfunding campaign until October 2027
