I am looking for an experienced comic-book artist for Part 1 of a planned 3-part educational comic series.
I recently completed my MBBS and am building this comic as a medical-learning and revision system. It turns medical concepts into memorable, imaginative comic scenes instead of textbook diagrams. I check every scene for medical accuracy.
THE PROJECT
- Starting with a first batch of about 20 pages. The full Part 1 (150-180 pages) will follow in later batches if the work is good.
One continuous story, not separate illustrations: a recurring female protagonist travels through a connected fictional universe and meets surreal events that represent medical concepts
- About 907 panels, roughly 150-180 pages, up to 6 panels per page
- Cinematic, clean and expressive, character-focused, with detailed backgrounds
- Parts 2 and 3 will follow with the same characters and universe, so this is long-term work if it goes well
STYLE AND COLOUR
Part 1 will be black-and-white line art with clean, solid blacks and no grey shading, so it can be coloured later (by you or another artist). Layered source files are required, with the line art on its own layer. Colour reference images are available to show the intended palette.
WHAT MATTERS MOST
Consistency across hundreds of panels: the same face, hairstyle, age, proportions and style on every page. I will provide a character reference image. My reference and sample images are AI-generated. They show the style and layout I want, and you will create original artwork.
REQUIREMENTS
- 100% original artwork drawn by you, by hand or digitally. No tracing, and no AI-generated images in the final pages.
- You sign an NDA and a copyright assignment agreement (via DocuSign) before I share any story material. All final artwork will be owned by me, including the right to have it coloured by anyone.
- You follow my panel notes and do not change the medical content. You decide panel sizes, pacing and page composition.
- Final delivery: layered source files and print-ready PDFs at A5 size , 300 dpi.
PROCESS AND PAYMENT
1. Shortlisted artists draw a paid test sequence (5-10 panels) using my character reference. I use it to check consistency.
2. The selected artist signs the agreement, then works in batches of about 20 pages.
3. I pay per page, in stages: pilot, character designs and layouts, each approved batch, and final delivery.
TO APPLY, PLEASE SEND
1. Your portfolio, especially one character shown consistently across multiple panels or pages
2. Your price per page for black-and-white line art, and your estimated total and your total for the first 20 pages.
3. Your price per page for full-colour pages, if you offer colouring
4. Whether you offer a volume discount
5. Your turnaround time per 20-page batch
6. Revisions included per batch
7. Confirmation that all final pages will be created by you, without AI image generators
I am looking for fair quotes and a reliable long-term collaborator. Please apply with your portfolio and a realistic quotation.
