Freelance 3D Character Sculptor – ZBrush | Collectible Toy Design
About the Project
We are developing a premium chibi-style collectible character series inspired by Indian mythology.
The 2D character design and visual direction have already been completed. We are now looking for an experienced 3D Character Sculptor who can translate the approved 2D artwork into a high-quality 3D sculpt suitable for physical collectible production.
The aesthetic is a cute, premium designer-toy/chibi collectible, rather than a conventional realistic figurine.
Scope of Work
The selected artist will:
Convert approved 2D character artwork/reference sheets into a 3D sculpt
Create the character primarily in ZBrush
Accurately maintain the character's approved:
Chibi proportions
Oversized head/body ratio
Facial features and expression
Hair and topknot
Crown and peacock feather
Clothing/dhoti
Jewellery and accessories
Hands, feet and overall pose
Props and other character-specific elements
Develop the sculpt through an approval-based workflow:
Blockout → Character approval → Detailed sculpt → Final production model
Provide 360° turntable views/renders for review
Incorporate feedback and revisions during the sculpting process
Ensure the final character has a clean silhouette and works as a physical collectible, not just as an on-screen render
Prepare/separate components appropriately for 3D printing and eventual mould/manufacturing production, if this capability is included in the engagement
Required Deliverables
Initial 3D blockout for proportion approval
Detailed high-resolution character sculpt
Front, side, back and ¾-angle previews
360° turntable render
Final approved ZBrush source file — ZTL/ZPR
STL/OBJ files suitable for 3D printing/prototyping
Separate production parts/components where required
Final revised sculpt following prototype/manufacturing feedback, if agreed within scope
Ideal Candidate
We are specifically looking for someone with:
Strong experience with ZBrush
Experience sculpting chibi/stylized characters
Previous work on collectible toys, vinyl figures, designer toys or figurines
Strong understanding of translating 2D character art into 3D
Good understanding of proportions, facial appeal and character expression
Experience preparing models for 3D printing
Ideally, knowledge of toy manufacturing, moulding, part separation, joints, tolerances and production constraints
Ability to follow an existing character design closely rather than unnecessarily redesigning the character
