I need an Excel-based overview of my recent bank statements that pulls together all transactions into a clear, easy-to-read summary. The goal is to see every expense grouped by type—food, utilities, transport, entertainment and any other logical categories that emerge—so I can tell at a glance where the money is going.

All raw statements will come to you in CSV or PDF form. Please import them into Excel (Power Query is fine if you prefer) and build a table that:

• lists every transaction with date, description, amount and the category you assign
• rolls those categories up into a concise summary sheet showing total spend per category

A tidy pivot chart or two that visualises the split would be a welcome touch, but the core deliverable is the workbook itself, fully formula-driven so I can refresh it with new statements later. If you spot other ways to enhance the file—conditional formatting, dynamic ranges, or a dropdown for re-classifying items—feel free to include them.

I’m interested only in the categorised breakdown; overall deposit/withdrawal totals or monthly views aren’t required right now, though leave the structure flexible enough that we could add those metrics later.

Send back the finished .xlsx and a brief note explaining any custom logic you used for categorisation.
