Build a Simple Web-Based Employee Attendance & Leave Management System (AI/Automation Friendly)

Project Overview

I'm looking for an experienced automation guy who's experienced in using claude/claude cowork to build a simple, lightweight employee attendance and leave management system for my company.

This is NOT a full HR or payroll system.
I want something practical, easy to use, and easy to expand in the future.

I prefer a web-based solution that employees can access using their mobile phone browser.
I do not want a native Android/iOS app unless there is a strong reason why one is necessary.

This project will be the foundation for future internal business automation projects.

Main Objectives

The system should allow employees to:

Clock In
Clock Out
Apply for Leave

Management should be able to:

View attendance records
Approve or reject leave requests
Easily review attendance at the end of each month for payroll purposes
Required Features
1. Employee Login

Employees should have their own account/login before accessing the attendance system.

2. Clock In / Clock Out

Employees should be able to:

Open a website on their mobile phone
Clock In
Clock Out

No mobile app installation is preferred.

3. GPS Geofencing

Clock In should only be allowed if the employee is within approximately 50 metres of the company location.

If they are outside the permitted radius, the system should prevent clock-in and display an appropriate message.

4. Attendance Records

Attendance should automatically be recorded with information such as:

Employee Name
Date
Clock In Time
Clock Out Time
GPS Location
Working Hours
5. Attendance Dashboard

I would like a simple dashboard or table that allows management to quickly review attendance.

Colour coding is preferred, for example:

Present

Late

Absent

Approved Leave

Pending Leave

Automatic late calculation would be appreciated.

6. Leave Application

Employees should be able to submit leave requests through the same web interface.

Example leave types:

Annual Leave
Medical Leave
Emergency Leave
7. Leave Approval

When an employee submits a leave request:

Manager receives a notification (Email or WhatsApp preferred)
Manager can Approve or Reject

Once approved, the attendance record should automatically reflect the leave status.

8. Monthly Attendance

At the end of each month, the payroll person should be able to easily review attendance records.

Payroll calculation is NOT required.

The system only needs to provide clear attendance records for payroll reference.

I am open to recommendations.

Possible technologies include:

n8n
Supabase
Google Apps Script
Google Sheets
Airtable
Next.js / React
Any suitable modern web technology

The simplest and most maintainable solution is preferred.

Ownership & Learning Requirement

This is important.

I would like the project to be built using my own accounts wherever possible (for example GitHub, Supabase, Claude, etc.) so that I retain full ownership after completion.

I am also interested in learning how the system works, so I would appreciate a developer who is willing to briefly explain the architecture and setup during development.
