I already know a handful of notes and can stumble through a couple of simple tunes, but I’ve never really learned how to read sheet music properly. My goal is to become comfortable reading popular‐song scores so I can pick up chart hits, movie themes, or anything trending on YouTube and play them smoothly on my flute.
Here’s what I need from you:
• A structured lesson plan that starts with the fundamentals of notation (staff, key signatures, rhythms) and quickly moves into practical, song-based reading exercises.
• Live, interactive sessions online (Zoom, Skype, or similar) once or twice a week, 30-45 minutes each, with PDF hand-outs or screen-shared material I can print.
• Short practice assignments after every lesson and clear feedback on fingerings, breath support, tone, and timing as we go.
• A gradual repertoire of popular songs arranged for a near-beginner level, building in complexity as my reading improves.
By the end of our first month, I’d like to be able to sight-read simple pop melodies in the key of C or G at a steady tempo without stopping to count every beat. If that sounds achievable to you, let’s set up a trial lesson and outline the first batch of songs and exercises.
