Automate Shopify Discounted Shipping

I’m looking for someone who can eliminate the extra UPS charges we incur whenever an item is shipped from our Chico, CA factory instead of our main Eagan, MN warehouse. We already receive Shopify’s negotiated UPS rates in Eagan; the goal is to make sure that same discounted label prints automatically—without anyone on our team having to intervene—whenever an order is fulfilled from Chico.

Here’s the exact flow I need implemented:

• After the customer checks out, the system should recognise that stock is being pulled from the Chico location and still generate a UPS label at the Shopify-discounted rate.
• If Shopify’s discount truly cannot be applied from that second location, every affected SKU must be tagged “OUT OF STOCK-CHICO” each day, and any resulting order needs a “DROPSHIP-CHICO” tag so our team can handle it before fulfilment.

We already manage inventory for both sites in our existing system, so you can hook into that data rather than build tracking from scratch. Ideally this is set up through Shopify’s shipping profiles, carrier-calculated rates, or the Admin/API—whatever reliably automates the discount application. Once in place, I want the process fully hands-off: we update stock, the right label prints, and the customer experience stays seamless.

Deliverables that will let me sign off:

1. Working automation that prints the Shopify-discounted UPS label for Chico-origin shipments, or documented proof it’s impossible with a secondary fallback tagging workflow live in the store.
2. Clear explanation of any app, script, or API changes you make, with steps my staff can use for future edits.
3. Short test plan showing orders fulfilled from both sites and the resulting shipping charges or tags.

If you’re comfortable with Shopify Admin API, carrier services, and multi-location fulfilment, I’d like to get this in place quickly so our ad-spend isn’t eaten up by unnecessary shipping costs.
