Job Title
Freelance Payroll Auditor / Workday Expert (Washington State Higher Ed & WFSE Union Experience)
Job Description
I am looking for a freelance payroll expert with deep Workday and public institutional payroll experience to audit 6 months of my pay history at a Washington state university. I am a classified staff employee whose status shifted from salaried to hourly for 3 months during the summer, and then back to salaried.
I suspect significant underpayment, missing paychecks due to missed deadlines, and systemic time-tracking profile errors that are affecting my overtime and holiday calculations. You will be auditing 12 distinct semi-monthly pay cycles based on provided PDFs and Workday data exports (redacted for privacy).
Key Audit Focus Areas
1. The "Missing" First Month Paycheck & Emergency Payouts: Audit my first month of employment (starting May 11). I missed a time entry deadline and never received my first paycheck, and multiple requested emergency payments never seemed to process. Verify if this time was ever retroactively compensated.
2. Workday Schedule Profile vs. Actual Days Off: In my first month and from September onward, my official Workday schedule profile does not match my actual scheduled days off. Audit how this discrepancy impacted my overtime eligibility thresholds (e.g., straight time vs. 1.5x) and holiday premium pay calculations.
3. Salaried vs. Hourly Shift (The 3 Summer Months): Review the 3 months I was switched to hourly. Ensure the transition did not cause a lapse in paid hours or incorrect benefit/retirement deductions.
4. Union Agreement Compliance: Review payroll data against WFSE (Washington Federation of State Employees) contract parameters regarding scheduled days off, overtime thresholds, and holiday premium eligibility.
Requirements
• Demonstrated expertise as a Payroll Auditor, Workday HCM/Payroll Consultant, or HR Compliance Specialist.
• Familiarity with higher education or public sector payroll systems, specifically operating within Washington State guidelines.
• Strong understanding of WFSE collective bargaining agreements, FLSA laws, overtime threshold structuring, and shift/holiday premiums.
• Absolute data privacy adherence (NDA required).
Project Details
• Project Type: One-time project / Fixed-price or Hourly
• Timeline: Completion within 1 to 2 weeks.
