I need an experienced Arabic proofreader to review and correct
Arabic subtitles for a bilingual humanitarian documentary.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
- Humanitarian documentary about children with disabilities in Iraq
- Bilingual film: Arabic AND Norwegian dialogue (both in audio)
- Documentary directed by an Iraqi filmmaker
- 1,491 Arabic subtitle lines (approximately 63 minutes)
- Must maintain strict confidentiality
WHAT YOU'LL PROOFREAD:
✓ Grammar, spelling, punctuation (Arabic)
✓ Character name consistency (critical!)
✓ Medical terminology accuracy
✓ Natural dialogue flow and tone
✓ Subtitle timing and readability
✓ Verify Arabic subtitles match Arabic audio (accuracy check)
✓ Cultural appropriateness
EXACTLY HOW YOU'LL WORK:
I'll provide THREE files:
1. **Full movie audio file** (MP3) — Contains BOTH Arabic AND Norwegian dialogue
2. **Arabic subtitle file** (.txt) — The text to proofread
3. **English subtitle file** (.txt) — Reference ONLY (for understanding Norwegian scenes)
YOUR PROCESS:
- Listen to the complete audio (Arabic + Norwegian mixed)
- When you hear ARABIC → check it against the Arabic subtitles
- When you hear NORWEGIAN → refer to English subtitles for context
- Check subtitle accuracy, timing, and sync
- Ensure Arabic subtitles match what's actually being said
QUALITY TEST:
I've already identified 2 critical errors for you to find/confirm:
1. Gender agreement error (one phrase uses masculine instead of feminine)
2. Character name spelling inconsistency (sister's name spelled 2 different ways)
Can you spot these errors? (Tests your attention to detail)
DELIVERABLES:
✓ Corrected Arabic subtitle file (.txt)
✓ Document listing ALL changes made + reasons why
✓ Notes on any ambiguous sections needing director clarification
✓ Timestamp notes if timing/readability issues found
REQUIREMENTS:
ESSENTIAL: Native Arabic speaker
ESSENTIAL: Subtitle/translation experience
+ Documentary or humanitarian content experience (preferred)
+ Can provide 2 references or portfolio samples
+ Comfortable working with bilingual audio files
APPLY IF YOU:
✓ Are native Arabic speaker
✓ Have subtitle proofreading experience
✓ Can listen to mixed-language audio and follow along with text
✓ Understand humanitarian/sensitive content
✓ Take confidentiality seriously
✓ Have attention to detail for consistency errors
NOTE: NO VIDEO FILE will be shared (confidentiality).
You'll work with audio files + subtitle files only.
