Project Description:
We are planning a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing anatomical snuffbox arteriovenous fistulas (SBAVF) with conventional wrist radiocephalic AV fistulas (RCAVF) used for hemodialysis access.
The primary aim is to determine whether snuffbox AV fistulas provide comparable or superior outcomes to conventional wrist fistulas while preserving more proximal vascular access sites for future use.
The review will assess outcomes including:
* Fistula maturation and primary failure
* Successful cannulation and time to cannulation
* Primary, assisted-primary and secondary patency
* Thrombosis and fistula failure
* Steal syndrome and other complications
* Requirement for angioplasty, thrombectomy or surgical revision
* Preservation and subsequent use of proximal vascular access sites
A secondary objective will be to identify predictors of successful snuffbox AVF maturation and long-term patency, including:
* Radial artery diameter
* Cephalic vein diameter
* Age and sex
* Diabetes mellitus
* Peripheral vascular disease
* Smoking and hypertension
* Laterality
* Preoperative duplex ultrasound parameters
* Surgical/anastomotic technique
The project will be conducted according to PRISMA guidelines.
