WE’RE BUILDING SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
Brand & Digital Designer — Magic
Freelance / Monthly Retainer | Remote
Insurance has a problem.
It’s complicated. It’s full of jargon. Important details are buried in small print. And far too much of the industry still looks and feels like it did 20 years ago.
We’re here to change that.
We’re building Magic — a new generation of insurance broker combining expert advice, technology, advanced AI and radical transparency to create a simpler, smarter experience for customers.
Our philosophy is simple:
Pull Back the Curtain.
Show people what’s actually covered.
Explain what’s not.
Reveal the differences that matter.
Ask the questions customers didn’t know to ask.
And we’re now looking for a brilliant designer to help us bring that idea to life.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a talented Brand & Digital Designer to work with us on a rolling monthly basis as Magic develops.
This isn’t a one-off logo project.
You’ll become part of the creative journey — helping shape how Magic looks, feels and behaves across our brand, website and digital experience.
You’ll work across:
BRAND
* Evolve and develop the Magic visual identity
* Logo and brand applications
* Typography, colour, imagery and graphic language
* Brand assets and creative concepts
* Develop a distinctive and recognisable design system
DIGITAL / UI / UX
* Design and refine the Magic website
* Create engaging landing pages and product experiences
* Develop UI components and design systems
* Help turn complex insurance journeys into simple digital experiences
* Design with conversion, usability and clarity in mind
* Work alongside developers to bring designs to life
CREATIVE
* Social and digital campaigns
* Marketing assets
* Presentations and sales materials
* New creative concepts and ideas
* Help us find interesting ways to bring the Magic personality into everything we do
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re not looking for someone who simply makes things look nice.
We’re looking for someone who thinks.
Someone who understands that great design can make complicated things feel simple, make unfamiliar things feel trustworthy and make people actually want to engage.
You should be:
Clever.
You understand design, but more importantly, you understand why something works.
Curious.
You ask questions, challenge assumptions and look beneath the surface.
Bold.
You’re comfortable trying something different rather than defaulting to what everyone else is doing.
Human.
You understand that digital experiences should feel intuitive, approachable and engaging.
A little playful.
Insurance doesn’t have to look like insurance.
And you should have excellent visual taste.
We’re particularly interested in people with strong experience in:
* Brand identity
* Digital design
* UI/UX
* Figma
* Design systems
* Responsive web design
* Typography and visual hierarchy
* Conversion-focused digital experiences
Experience in fintech, insurtech, financial services or other complex industries would be a big plus — but it’s not essential.
THE MAGIC MINDSET
Our brand is built around six ideas:
Transparency. Expertise. Technology & AI. Simplicity. Human. Challenger Spirit.
We want those ideas to be visible in the design.
Not through corporate buzzwords.
Through the actual experience.
The Magic brand should feel intelligent without being intimidating.
Confident without being corporate.
Playful without losing trust.
Different without being different for the sake of it.
Our brand bible says it best:
“The insurance expert that knows what to look for, tells you what you need to know, and isn’t afraid to ask why.”
That’s the personality we’re looking to bring to life.
THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD, NOT JUST EXECUTE
Magic is at an early stage.
That means you won’t be joining a giant marketing department with 47 layers of approval.
You’ll have the opportunity to genuinely influence the brand as it develops.
You’ll help decide what Magic looks like.
How it behaves.
How customers experience it.
And ultimately, how a new generation of insurance can feel.
We’re looking for someone who wants to build with us, not simply complete a brief and disappear.
THE SET-UP
Freelance / contractor
Rolling monthly retainer
Remote
Flexible working arrangement
Ongoing creative relationship
The exact monthly commitment and retainer will depend on experience and the right fit.
INTERESTED?
Don’t just send us a CV.
Show us your work.
Send us your portfolio and 3 projects you’re genuinely proud of — and tell us briefly why you think they worked.
We’re much more interested in how you think than how many logos you’ve designed.
And if you want to go one step further…
Show us how you think Magic could look.
Nothing elaborate. A concept, a visual idea, a UI direction, a piece of creative — whatever you think demonstrates how you’d approach the brand.
We want to see your imagination.
Because we’re not looking for someone to simply decorate Magic.
We want someone who can help us make it magic.
Interested? DM me or get in touch with your portfolio.
