High-Detail 3D Modeling of Historical 1925 Packard / Cummins Diesel Test Car (AR-Ready)Project
Description:
I am looking for an experienced 3D hard-surface/vehicle modeler to reconstruct a lost historical vehicle from archival media: the 1925 Packard Roadster "Cummins Diesel Engine Test Car" (Clessie Cummins' famous 1930 Daytona Beach speed-record car). Because this physical vehicle no longer exists, you will work strictly from archival reference photos and vintage newsreel footage. We will provide high-resolution, flat orthographic side-profile photos and engine close-ups as digital blueprints. Key Requirements & Scope of Work: Exterior & Body: Accurate 1925 Packard roadster tub, cowl, rear deck, running boards, and exposed chassis frame. Engine & Bay: Fully detailed recreation of the exposed Cummins Model U 4-cylinder marine diesel engine (including manifold, intake/exhaust pipes, cylinder head boxes, and side inspection plates) as visible in reference photos. Undercarriage & Suspension: Modeled leaf springs, solid front/rear axles, drive shaft, steering linkage, and brake assemblies. Wheels & Tires: Solid disc wheels with accurate tread and period-correct "KELLY BALLOON" raised sidewall lettering. Interior: Dashboard with period gauges/levers, wooden steering wheel, floor pedals, gear shifter, and textured leather bench seat. Rigging / Movable Parts: Properly grouped and pivot-aligned elements for animation: Left and right doors (rigged to swing open/close); front wheels (pivot for steering); all four wheels (rotational axis centered). Textures & Materials: PBR workflow (Albedo, Roughness, Metallic, Normal, Ambient Occlusion). Clean texturing with side-door lettering matching historical footage ("CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE TEST CAR"). Technical Specifications: Topology: Clean, optimized, quad-dominant mesh (suitable for real-time engines/AR without visual faceting).UVs: Non-overlapping, clean unwraps with efficient texture atlas layout (2K or 4K PBR texture sets).Deliverables: Native Blender (.blend) or Maya/3ds Max project file. Real-time AR format: .GLB (glTF 2.0) with embedded textures and pivot points preserved. Interchange format: .FBX or .OBJ with texture maps folder. To apply: Please share links to your portfolio showcasing previous automotive, hard-surface, or mechanical 3D modeling. We will prioritize proposals with examples of engine bays, vintage vehicles, or real-time/AR assets. We will send the reference PDF and video files immediately upon hire.
