Fair business
Yes, alas, but there are such things as cheating in freelancing. I will talk about them right now. Personally I have around 8 years of freelance experience, and could tell lots of things in order to protect both webmaster and freelancers. Browse or search for another articles, if you cannot find information needed in this article.
The main principle in freelance should be fairness. Should... You should be absolutely fair with your webmaster or freelancer.
I saw lots of freelances excuses, like "electricity has gone off", "I have no internet"; most frequent was "I've got ill".
Most of them really want to say: "Hey, I am sorry, but I cannot do the project I won. It is too complicated. But I am not able to tell you that, maybe I am afraid...".
I agree that people could get ill. But in that case you should inform webmaster, maybe return all the work you have done, and return all the money you have received. In this case webmaster will see you are a trustworthy freelancer, and most possible you will not get a bad review. Moreover, it's a very likely you do will get more jobs from that webmaster.
So, I repeat again - be fair if you want to survive in freelancer world.
